okay one more post about their names before bed because i can
they’re all very English names (except Mihael, but maybe Byron just liked the sound of it better) and they all have biblical references (which isn’t all that surprising given the West’s Abrahamic culture. a ton of our names do). III’s is the most interesting and EXACTLY WHY I WAS HOPING FOR IT I’M SO EXCITED I LOVE IT SO MUCH anyway…
CHRISTOPHER: English form of Latin Christophorus, meaning “Christ-bearer.”
THOMAS: English form of Greek Thōmas, meaning “twin.” In the New Testament bible, this is the name of one of the twelve apostles. He is referred to as “Thomas, called Didymus,” his surname. (it’s also the long form of a certain snake faced Dark Lord’s name hahaha)
MIHAEL: Slovene form of Greek Michaēl, meaning “who is like God?
MICHAEL: Anglicized form of Greek Michaēl (Hebrew Miyka’el), meaning “who is like God?” or literally “El’s likeness.” In the Old Testament bible, this is the name of many characters, including the prince of Angels, the first archangel who was closest to God and became the guardian angel of Israel. In the New Testament, he leads the angelic host against the Apocalyptic Dragon. The Dead Sea Scrolls contain a story entitled “The War of the Sons of Light and the Sons of Darkness,” in which Michael is described as the “viceroy of heaven,” a title said to once belong to Satan. His name was the war-cry of the angels when he led them in battle against their chief antagonist, Samael.
also Byron for kicks (because his is amazing lmao)
BYRON: English surname transferred to forename use, from the Old English phrase æt ðæm byrum (“at the byres or cattle-sheds”). The name was usually given to someone whose job it was to look after cattle.Михаэль или Майкл?читать дальше
Hope this clears up the confusion.
Everyone seems to be really confused about whether III’s name is MICHAEL or MIHAEL.
It is MIHAEL.
See that katakana in the corner?
ミハエル <— This.
ミ = MI
ハ = HA
エ = E
ル = RU
Mihaeru —> Mihael.
I spoke to a friend who is currently in her third year of Japanese in college and she assured me that if it were Michael it’d look like this: マイケル
マイケル
マ = MA
イ = I
ケ = KE
ル = RU
——-
Point being: the name is MIHAEL, not MICHAEL.Не то, и не другое! Это вообще русское Михаил!

Dear Zexal fandom!!
It is probably not Michael or Mihael, especially because the latter is not really a name. It’s more than likely Mikhail, the Russian version of the name, but rendered funny in katakana because that’s what the Japanese language tends to do to Russian words and names.
So, this would be your friendly reminder not to take katakana romanizations 100% literally here, especially where foreign names in their non-native tongue come into play.Имя Фо - отсылка к близнецам Камиширо.читать дальшеso from THIS POST
