So, we all know that in the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe, there are no happy endings. Only bittersweet endings. Want proof?
DM - Atem leaves, but Yugi will always remember everything that Atem had taught him.
GX - Judai leaves his school life and his adventures behind, but he will never forget all that he’s been through, and all his friends.
5D’s - The team disbands, and they no longer have their marks, but all they’ve been through together shaped their future, and who they are. They taught each other how to become a better person.
That leads me to believe that ZEXAL will end in a sad way too. But, in order for you to understand everything, I need to give you my hypothesis on who’ll be the main villain. Some of you might not like what I’m implying. But if you really just wanna see my prediction for the ending, skip down past my hypothesis.
You guys all remember when Black Mist cornered Astral in the Emperor’s Key, right? Remember any dialogue from that little encounter between the two? Because I do.
Before I tell you, we know that Astral was sent to Earth from the Astral World on a mission. However, he doesn’t remember that mission, so he must track down all his memories to make sense of it. Do we remember that memory we saw for Black Mist? A world was being destroyed. They never specified which world, though. Most of you guys think that it’s the Astral World, but I thought, “Maybe….it might be Earth?”
What if that memory of the planet being destroyed, was Astral’s mission? It’s possible. Now, to the dialogue that I was talking about. Black Mist revealed that all the Numbers want the same: the destruction of Earth. But Numbers are Astral’s memories. They wouldn’t be able to stray from Astral, now could they? Unless if what Astral wants is the same as his memories….
Now, we know that Astral was sent to Earth by someone from the Astral World. Before I reveal the next part, does anyone remember what Tron asked Yuma in episode 65? He asked Yuma why he didn’t want revenge on Dr. Faker, and Yuma replied that his father wouldn’t want it. What did Tron reply? He said, “But what is Kazuma’s planning his own revenge? It might even have started already. Why is Astral here?”
So back to what I was talking about. Astral was sent by some from the Astral World, and who do we know is in the Astral World? Kazuma. Kazuma may have sent Astral as a missionary of revenge. And remember in episode 60 when Tron was talking to some random dude in a portal? What if that was Kazuma?
I know what you’re thinking. Kazuma’s in the Astral World, and Tron was probably talking to someone from the Barian World. But they never specified that either. For all we know, he could’ve been talking to someone from the Astral World. And Tron obviously knows something that we don’t about Kazuma.
So my point in this is that Kazuma sent Astral for revenge.
Now, some of you have made a point that Black Mist might be the final villain. But remember, Black Mist is only a memory. A destructive memory, but still, he’s only a memory. And the one that exerts the control of Black Mist is Astral. And besides, Numbers are Astral’s memories, and Numbers feed of the darkness of their holders. Darkness, that’s always the main Yu-Gi-Oh! villain. And if darkness is Astral’s memory….
That’s why I think Astral’s the main villain.
—
So now that we’ve got that cleared up, here’s the actual prediction of the ending.
—
So I think this will be how the final showdown will go down.
Yuma finds out that Astral’s mission was the destroy Earth, and when Astral retrieved all of his memories, his “true” self is revealed. Then Astral somehow separates himself from Yuma and goes on with his mission.
Yuma’s in shock, but he goes after Astral for a final showdown of the Numbers. Astral has all of his Numbers, except for one: Hope. Astral, before turning evil, had left Hope with Yuma, knowing what was going to happen and relying on Yuma to save him.
Astral’s conquest is going well, and the a darkness is slowly eating away at the Earth. The entire world’s in despair, and it’s up to Yuma to save it. Yuma, along with the Numbers Club, Shark, Kaito, and the Arclights, set out to track down Astral.
Once they find Astral, they try to talk some sense into him, but nothing they say can get through to him. Then Astral strikes the ground, and Yuma is separated from the others.
Yuma is by himself on a rock surrounded by lava. He’s unconscious from the fall. In his consciousness, he sees the real Astral, the one that he knew. They chat for a bit where Yuma asks how Astral is still with him. Astral doesn’t reply, but he points to Yuma’s extra deck holder, and Yuma pulls out Hope.
Suddenly, the ground below him crumbles and he falls again. This time, he lands on the rickety path leading up to the door that first brought him Astral. The door finally clarified what it meant when it said that Yuma would gain a great power, but lose his most precious item….well, more like friend: Astral. The power he gained was ZEXAL, and along with it, he gained his most precious friend, and now he needs to use ZEXAL one last time to save what he lost.
Yuma was that transported back into real life, and he woke up. He gets up off the ground, and he turns around to see Astral. He challenges Astral to a duel.
The duel is a life or death battle between the two, their Life Points are connected directly to their life. Everything is real, no AR Vision. They begin the duel, and Yuma begins to break. Astral pushes him into a corner, and Yuma’s tears start to fall. He thinks of all the times he had with Astral, and says that if he were to die, he’s glad to have met Astral.
Astral deals the final finishing blow, and in Yuma falls. This is also when Yuma’s friends find him, and watch what’s going on from a cliff nearby. They all see Yuma being blasted and they scream out for him. Yuma hears them right before he hits the ground, and says his last Kattobingu.
Yuma’s presumed to be dead, and Astral laughs sadistically at Yuma’s body. Meanwhile, in Yuma’s consciousness, we see that Yuma’s still alive. He’s speaking to the real Astral who had managed to somehow activate the facedown that Yuma had set. It had restored Yuma’s lifepoints back to 2000, keeping Yuma alive.
Astral and Yuma are having a heartfelt conversation, when Astral said that Yuma needs to activate ZEXAL one last time. Yuma asks how he can, Astral once again indicates Hope.
In real life, Yuma’s friends are crying over his death, Astral still laughing, when Yuma begins stirring. They all notice, and Yuma stands back up, staring Astral straight in the face. Yuma says that he’s not the real Astral.
He looks at Hope, who’s on the field, and then his deck. He then remembers his memories of Astral. He begins his turn, and he summons out Hope Ray. Then yells out, “Super Kattobingu!” and he turns into a beam of light. Another beam of light appears, and the two overlay, creating for the last time, ZEXAL.
Astral, and Yuma’s friends are all shocked at what they had just witnessed. Yuma then activates some card that lets him use Xyz Material from his Deck, Graveyard, and Hand. He then overlays Hope Ray with Hope, and two other monsters. A glow starts to emit from Yuma’s extra deck, and Yuma pulls out the card that ends the duel: Ultimate Lord of Hope: Friendship (lol! Cheesy name, right there)
The evil Astral is in shock, and Yuma deals the final blow, defeating him. ZEXAL wears off, and Yuma’s Yuma again, and he runs over to Astral, who’s starting to fade now. (alright, I’m gonna add dialogue now)
“Astral! You’re back to normal, again. Wait, you’re fading away!” Yuma cried. Yuma cradles Astral in his arm, and Astral looks up at him. “This is what I deserve. You saved me, Yuma, and I can never repay you for that,” Astral said, his voice weak. “Astral…,” Yuma muttered, tears welling in his eyes.
“Yuma, just never forget….I’ll always be in your heart,” Astral whispered, vanishing completely. Yuma’s tears are waterfalling down his face now, still cradling a now, nonexistent Astral. “Astral….you were the best friend I ever had. I will never forget you, and all you taught me. I wouldn’t be who I am now if it weren’t for you. But it’s too late for me to say that now. I never told you how much I appreciated you. And now you’ll never hear me.”
Little did he know, Astral had heard. The part that will forever dwell within Yuma’s heart. The lava surrounding the rock Yuma was on disappeared, allowing his friends to reach him. “I can’t believe it….He’s really gone now….,” they all said (well versions of it, but I’m too lazy to make dialogue for each of them.)
Time passed on, and Yuma was still depressed that Astral was gone. He had quit dueling, and started acting a lot like Kattobinguless Yuma. One day, his friends all got sick of it, so Shark came by and challenged him to a duel, on Sunday, at the place where they had their first duel….where Astral first appeared!
Yuma reluctantly agreed, and whether by accident or purpose, the beginning of the duel went exactly the same as their first duel. Shark then points out that he would’ve summoned Number 17 at this point, and that reminds Yuma of Astral. Yuma brightens after that and he pointed out to himself in his mind that he now understood the true depth of his Kattobingu because of his times with Astral.
A bright smile crosses his face, and he makes his move, shouting “KATTOBINGU DA ZE, ORE!”
